Coherent microwave energy (MASER) is probably what is being used to instantaneously superheat and destroy the cores of large thunderstorms and hurricanes.
The time of this video was about 4:30 PM PST. Note the shock waves in the core generating the blast waves - which are the icicle type feature around the periphery of the system.

Maser Amplification
Think about Dominos lined up one after another in a long line.Each Domino is slightly larger than the one in front of it until at the end of the line the last Domino has reached hugh proportions.
A slight finger tap to the first Domino sets of the chain reaction which causes the last Domino at the end of the line up to fall.
That same "Finger tap" is not able to topple the last domino because it is so large, but when it is applied to the small first Domino in the line up, eventually the last Domino falls because of the ever increasing force that built up along the line of falling Dominos.
That is basically how a Maser can operate.
Devices that emit in the microwave region and below are commonly called masers, regardless of whether they emit microwaves or other frequencies.
