We seek to hear those among us who are anointed.

The Anointing

There are some who walk with an anointing from God Himself upon their lives.

Such an anointing that others are impacted and drawn.

There is a manifested presence of the person of the Holy Spirit that lifts and encourages in such a way that has a lasting impression for having been exposed to the ones who walk in anointing.

There is something beyond anything of this earth that enlarges and fills, pushes us forward into the larger plans of Jesus Christ for our own existence and that of others in ministry and service.

Years may pass, and yet the influence and shaping of that precious anointing still lingers upon us.

Will we ever know or experience that anointing again?
Will we ever hear genuine words of relevancy for the moment from the mind and heart of Almighty God again?

Or will we just be entertained and catered to while hearing flat words of man?

The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
John 12:21

It is Jesus that we want to see and hear.

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Acts 10:38

John 6:44-45 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

Therefore, those who are drawn are all that do in fact come to Jesus.

They come to Him because God has opened their heart and taught them.

Colossians 1:19-20 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

The plan of God is grander than just people going to church and worshipping Him.

He means to reconcile the whole created order to Himself.

Since Jesus says He will draw “all,” He may be referring to “all things.”

, He may be saying that His death, and the power it has to eradicate sin, will be the fulcrum God will use to undo all the effects of evil everywhere in the universe:

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
John 12:32

Jesus has the anointing of the Holy Spirit and power from God (Acts 10:38) to draw all of us to Himself.

We are drawn to Jesus when we hear Him speak through others who have yielded their lives to Him.

They have prayed sincerely, "Dear Jesus I submit to You and I desire that you would use me as you see fitting. I desire that Your Words would be in my mouth and that every single word of the flesh would fall void to the ground and that Your Word would go forth from my mouth as I represent You before others."

God anoints people who pray like that!

So where are the anointed of God?

The ones who truly represent Christ to the world around them with an anointing from God.

They are serving Jesus and not themselves.

O how we long for Jesus!

O how we seek after the ones who serve Him, who would speak His Words.

The anointing of God has no equal.

Sir, we would see Jesus.

John 12:21

So who do you say that I am?

“Who do you say that I am?”

Jesus Christ once asked, “Who do you say that I am?”

Have you ever thought about who your fellowship or church says Jesus is?

Have you actually explored the different iterations that come from churches.

Have you ever given thought to who the Jesus you think you know is. What is the Jesus you hold in your mind and heart like?

My Jesus performed miracles.

Does yours?

My Jesus performed miracles in which humans were healed of diseases and physical maladies.

Two blind men were healed, a paralyzed man was cured, a leper was cleansed, a woman was healed with a long term hemorrhage of blood.

My Jesus performed miracles over nature.

He walked on the sea and He stilled a storm. He cursed a fig tree, causing it to wither.

My Jesus performed miracles over things and objects. He fed the five thousand and He changed the water into wine. He summoned a fish with a coin in it’s mouth.

My Jesus performed miracles in which those who were dead arose. His power conquered death itself.

My Jesus expelled evil spirits and demons out of humans who were tormented or insane.

Greatest of all, my Jesus forgives sin.

He forgave a known thief on the cross, a woman taken in adultery.

Many was the time that my Jesus healed and uttered the phrase, “Your sins are forgiven.” This is more amazing than the miracle He performed.

What was the effect on humans who saw these miracles? Were their lives changed in any way for having witnessed a miracle, even though that miracle was not performed directly on them?

What is the effect of Jesus’ miracles on us, on each of us as contemporary Christians who hear and seek to respond to his question, “Who do you say that I am?”

Some humans have a Jesus who does not perform miracles. Would Jesus still be Jesus the Christ if He had not performed any miracles? Do you still believe in miracles? Can your Jesus perform miracles today?

A miracle is not the momentary event; it is the miracle’s long range effect on humans.

Jesus performed His miracles to say something to humans about the relationship between God and God’s people.

He performed miracles out of His love and His empathy with those who suffered. Miracles were and are part of Jesus calling and ministry.

Luke 4:18-19
18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

“Lazarus, come out.”
John 11:43

These words originally rang out in a quiet cemetery, in the midst of a small group of humans in grief over the loss of a loved one.

The words back then were directed towards a small cave, a cave from which a sealing stone had just been removed, a cave where the body of Lazarus had been placed four days earlier.

The words rang out from this Jesus, my Jesus, despite the warning from the dead man’s sister that the forces of decomposition would already be at work and that the stench from the cave would be overpowering.

The words rang out, and a figure of a man bound in grave clothes emerged from the depths of the dark cave.

It was Lazarus the man who had been dead.

He walked out of the tomb, fully alive.

Then Jesus said, “Unbind him and let him go.”

Lazarus was not the only person Jesus raised from the dead.

On at least two other occasions He had only touched those who were dead and fully restored their life.

“Lazarus, come out.”

Place your own name their and close your eyes as you hear my Jesus.

Hear His strong voice ring out your name.

My Jesus who overcame death, calls out your name.

He calls out to you in that darkened cave that you have been placed.

That cave that can not hold you.

That obstacle in your life that has been holding you.

Illness, poverty, demon possession, that seem all so permanent in some ways.

All arenas that Jesus, Almighty God, is in control of.

Jesus performed amazing miracles.

Now you hear His voice saying to your circumstances, “Unbind him, let him go. Unbind her, let her go.”

God of love and mercy sets you, the captive free. Praise Him. Lift up your hands and give praise to Him. Worship Him!

You have been restored…“Who do you say that I am?” asks my Jesus.

David

Who Are You?

 "...I Am Who I Am"

Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” Exodus 3:13.

And God said to Moses, I Am Who I Am and What I Am, and I Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you! Exodus 3:14

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.."

And Elohim said unto Moshe, Eh-heh-yeh ashair Ehheh- yeh (I AM WHO I AM); and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the Bnei Yisroel, EHHEH-YEH (I AM) hath sent me unto you.

Exodus 3:14 is one of the greatest challenges to interpretation in the Bible.

We find a Divine name for All Mighty God here.

We see four words ehyeh asher ehyeh in the first part of Exodus 3:14 and ehyeh in the second part.

There has been no consensus on the meaning of this verse for at least 2,300 years because the meaning of just four words therein has defied all efforts at being convincingly explained.

God speaks words that to Moses and the Children of Israel, these words conveyed a meaning so clear and so potent as to have inspired them to undertake the legendary acts of courage and faith recounted in the Book of Exodus.

The words of Exodus 3:14 were both highly meaningful and readily comprehensible to those who first heard them.

The words indicate the way in which God should be known by name, there is every reason to believe that they would be just as meaningful for us today if only we understood them...

There is a connotation of absolute existence in the Septuagint version of this verse.

Moses is asking All Mighty God how it is that God should be known by name. God's self-designation.

We know there is a Divine name in Exodus 3:14, that this name is the Personal name of God, that it is the Hebrew word Ehyeh and that Ehyeh should be translated into English as I AM.

I AM articulates the perfect knowledge that God has of His existence.

The words Ehyeh asher Ehyeh are God's Self-identification to Moses they are not a name. They translate literally as "I AM asher I AM"

This is the greatest ever instance of Divine revelation to humanity at that point.

Until Jesus Christ appears on earth.

What we do know is that:

Jesus Christ is the self existent one who becomes what you need.

He is the all becoming one, He is God.

What we do know about the context of the conversation between Moses and the Master Creator is that he is sending Moses to set His people free.

Do you have needs?

 Are you trapped today?

 2 Corinthians 1:10
He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again.

On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us...

Velcro to Jesus Christ.

Cling to Him, rely upon Him, trust in Him.

That term in Exodus 3 is also the exact term used by The Lord Jesus Christ in describing Himself in John 8:58

He will deliver you!

Jesus was telling us that it was and is HE HIMSELF that was the one that lead the people out of Egypt.

Read what Paul says in 1 Cor. 10:1

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
  10:2   And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
  10:3   And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
10:4   And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

It was and is Christ that is The I AM of The Bible.

In  John 8:58 Jesus does apply the meaning of this Name to Himself when He says, "Before Abraham came into existence, I am", thus clearly identifying Himself as God.

Where Is The God Of Elijah?

Where Are the Prophets?

I’ve been wondering lately, where are the prophets?

Are there any real prophets cut from the same cloth of an Elijah who confounded the evil King Ahab or a John the Baptist who called out the sins of Herod? Are there any among the fundamentally conservative or the progressively liberal wings of Christianity who are willing to break political ranks and speak truth to power?

Solutions to complex issues like war, poverty, healthcare and environmental deterioration will require greater vision than what is currently possessed by those in power and those seeking to replace them. Our nation stands in great need of the truly prophetic.

The populace of American Christianity is generally polarized along the same fault lines as the two political parties who seek to gain the blessing and endorsement of the faithful. Tepid partisan clergy ranging from conservative to liberal on the theological spectrum has generally displaced the prophetic mantle in the public forums of our time.

Much of the upper tier conservative clerics still offer their carte blanche blessings to a political party and president whose values and policies have grossly distorted the Christian image to the rest of the world. The progressive wing of Christianity offers a similar endorsement of the entire platform of the other party. Where is the prophet like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who fearlessly advocated against war and for social justice in the face of both Republican and Democratic leaders and the Church?

I have a question for those recognized as prophets by the theological left and right. Are there points on the platform of your chosen political party that falls short of mercy and justice? If so, then please show some genuine prophetic authenticity and offer divine public correction to these issues. You could help change the errant course we travel as a nation. Our national leaders on the left and right apparently possess no map and have lost their compass. They desperately need prophetic help in the realms of vision and accountability. They do not need your blanket endorsements.

Many conservative and liberal clerics alike have become nothing more than pathetic lap dogs for the two political parties and the special interests they represent. Citizens entering voting booths must make their choices based on their individual conscience, but how can true prophets publicly endorse a single political party when both are corrupt?

Shouldn’t the prophetic office serve as a watchdog of the Church and the State? Prophets point out injustice and speak uncomfortable truth to those in authority regardless of their political party or church affiliation. Their function in society is not bound solely by the parameters of religion. Their authority to rebuke and bring correction historically extends into every social dimension where justice is lacking and mercy is needed.

Where is there a clear prophetic voice rising from the American societal landscape today? Where is the group or individual who dares to expose the injustice committed in our name by our government regardless of who is in power? Why do the preachers of the left and right only rebuke those leaders of the opposite party and never their own? Where is the prophet who is bold enough to confront the harlotry of the Church as she runs recklessly into the seductive arms of corrupt and conscienceless political suitors?

It is a terrible and costly compromise when preachers and prophets offer their endorsement of any party or candidate who is not willing to work legislatively for mercy and justice on every front. It is an even greater compromise when they dare not speak needed confrontational truth to those whom they have endorsed. The fear of losing their privileged place at the trough with the other lobbyists tragically enforces their silence.

Much study and editorializing has been done regarding the influence of fundamental Christianity in the outcome of the 2002 and 2004 elections. Although conservative Christian voters seemed pivotal in the elections, their actual impact in public policy was minimal. Four years of total Republican control of the White House and Congress delivered little that represents the values and concerns of the conservative Christians who endorsed them. Two Supreme Court appointments are the only real solace for the believers who supported this president and his subservient Congress.

Much work is being done among progressive Christians to counter that electoral influence. The 2006 elections show the pendulum of political control is swinging away from Republicans and continues to favor the Democrats in 2008. Will moderate and more liberal Church leaders be willing to speak truth to power when they are the ones being allowed through the turnstiles of the White House and the Congress?

The current influence of the polarized Church is apparently no greater than any other minor special interest group finding identity and nominal representation in the political parties of today. It will always be so as long as the church world allows itself to be exploited and fragmented by the strategists of the two political parties.

A united Church could actually become a powerful purveyor of good in the realm of public policy. This could happen if the conservative and the progressive wings decided to coalesce around a broader spectrum of justice related issues. They could collectively influence both parties to design public policy more reflective of judicious mercy. Is such a thing possible?

God help us. Where are the prophets?

Water Never Goes Away From The Earth

"German researchers have developed a battery that can remove sodium and chloride ions from seawater.

In theory, their invention could be far more energy efficient than thermal desalination or reverse osmosis.

This would cut the cost of using salt water for drinking or irrigation.

It could also be used to make compact desalination systems for boats and life rafts, or crops.

Each battery is made with manganese oxide nanorod electrodes, which absorb sodium when an electrical current passes through them.

When the current is reversed, they dump the sodium ions out into waste water."

Autonomous Vehicles Are Not As Wonderful As We Are Being Told They Are.

Here is why...

Alex Rubalcava writes that autonomous vehicles are the greatest force multiplier to emerge in decades for criminals and terrorists and open the door for new types of crime not possible today.

According to Rubalcava, the biggest barrier to carrying out terrorist plans until now has been the risk of getting caught or killed by law enforcement so that only depraved hatred, or religious fervor has been able to motivate someone to take on those risks as part of a plan to harm other people.

"A future Timothy McVeigh will not need to drive a truck full of fertilizer to the place he intends to detonate it," writes Rubalcava.

"A burner email account, a prepaid debit card purchased with cash, and an account, tied to that burner email, with an AV car service will get him a long way to being able to place explosives near crowds, without ever being there himself."

A recent example is instructive. Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev were identified by an examination of footage from numerous private security cameras that were recording the crowd in downtown Boston during the Marathon. Imagine if they could have dispatched their bombs in the trunk of a car that they were never in themselves?

Catching them might have been an order of magnitude more difficult than it was.

According to Rubalcava the reaction to the first car bombing using an AV is going to be massive, and it's going to be stupid.

There will be calls for the government to issue a stop to all AV operations, much in the same way that the FAA made the unprecedented order to ground 4,000-plus planes across the nation after 9/11

"But unlike 9/11, which involved a decades-old transportation infrastructure, the first AV bombing will use an infrastructure in its infancy, one that will be much easier to shut down" says Rubalcava.

"That shutdown could stretch from temporary to quasi-permanent with ease, as security professionals grapple with the technical challenge of distinguishing between safe, legitimate payloads and payloads that are intended to harm."

(And don't forget The Dead Pool.)

During the 90's a lot of us were experimenting with building our own computers. We also were trying out a lot of operating systems on them.

Today there are more choices than ever before for the computer hobbyists.

There are a lot of open source operating systems out there; being open source, they lend themselves to forks, clones or near clones, and friendly offshoots.

There are even services to let you customize, download, and (if you choose) bulk-install your own OS based on common components.

Phoronix notes a new project called NeXTBSD that might turn more heads than most new open source OSes, in part because of the developers behind it, and in part because of the positive thoughts many people have toward the aesthetics of NeXTSTEP and Mac OS X.

(And while it might be a fork of FreeBSD, the developers would rather call it a spork, instead.)

NeXTBSD was announced last week by Jordan Hubbard and Kip Macy at the Bay Area FreeBSD Users Group (BAFUG). NeXTBSD / FreeBSD X is based on the FreeBSD-CURRENT kernel while adding in Mach IPC, Libdispatch, notifyd, asld, launchd, and other components derived from Apple's open-source code for OS X.

The basic launchd/notifyd/asld/libdispatch stack atop their "fork" of FreeBSD is working along with other basic components of their new design.

You can watch a recording of the announcement as well as a longer introduction linked from Phoronix's story.

Google's Project Zero, which begins...

For the past couple of years I've been researching Windows elevation of privilege attacks.
This might be escaping sandboxing or gaining system privileges.
One of the techniques I've used multiple times is abusing the symbolic link facilities of the Windows operating system to redirect privileged code to create files or registry keys to escape the restrictive execution context. Symbolic links in themselves are not vulnerabilities, instead they're useful primitives for exploiting different classes of vulnerabilities such as resource planting or time-of-check time-of-use.

Click through that link to see examples of this abuse in action, but also information about how the underlying risks have been (or can be) mitigated.

With a pull request systemd now supports a su command functional and can create privileged sessions that are fully isolated from the original session

The su command is seen as bad because what it is supposed to do is ambiguous.

On one hand it's supposed to open a new session and change a number of execution context parameters, and on the other it's supposed to inherit a lot concepts from the originating session. Lennart Poettering's long story short: "`su` is really a broken concept.

It will given you kind of a shell, and it's fine to use it for that, but it's not a full login, and shouldn't be mistaken for one." The replacement command provided by systemd is machinectl shell.

Germany's domestic intelligence agency, the BfV, was so impressed with the NSA's surveillance software that they were willing to "share all data relevant to the NSA's mission" in order to get it.

"The data in question is regularly part of the approved surveillance measures carried out by the BfV.

In contrast, for example, to the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), Germany’s foreign intelligence agency, the BfV does not use a dragnet to collect huge volumes of data from the Internet. Rather, it is only allowed to monitor individual suspects in Germany -- and only after a special parliamentary commission has granted approval.

... Targeted surveillance measures are primarily intended to turn up the content of specific conversations, in the form of emails, telephone exchanges or faxes.

But along the way, essentially as a side effect, the BfV also collects mass quantities of so-called metadata.

Whether the collection of this data is consistent with the restrictions outlined in Germany's surveillance laws is a question that divides legal experts."

"...And The Word Was God"

The Living Word, when heard with faith, will reveal the Lord to the listener, like Jesus said of the Scriptures, "They testify of Me."

Let the Holy Spirit reveal the Word of God to your own heart by revelation from God Almighty. Not your own brains wisdom or probing but by the Holy Spirits illumination through revelation. How many times do we try by the merits of our own intellect to figure out and understand the Word of God?

 1 Corinthians 2:10
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

 1 Corinthians 2:11
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

The Word of God comes from above not below.

James 3:17
But the wisdom that is from above...

That which is from below can not reveal that which is from above. It is only revealed from above by revelation of the Holy Ghost.

 Luke 2:26
And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost...

1 Peter 1:12
Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

What things? Those things that are being revealed by the revelation of the Holy Spirit, those things that minister to us from God's Word.

God is His Word. Let the Holy Spirit reveal this to you by revelation not by your intellect or thought processes or deduction but by the Holy Spirit.

"...and the Word was God."

Jesus Christ is Lord. Jesus Christ is God. He is found in His inseparable Word. They are one and the same.

 John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Let the Holy Spirit reveal this to you by revelation.

Instead of looking to the origin of the herpes zoster problem:

both the (paradoxical) infectivity and the lack of efficacy of the chickenpox vaccine itself, the vaccine industry and its cheerleading arm, the CDC, are now promoting a new “shingles” vaccine which contains more of the same: another live varicella virus.

And already there is indication that the shingles vaccine causes … you guessed it … reactivation of the herpes zoster virus. Read a 2012 case study on this connection here.

So why is Google so good at what it does?

It is the people behind Google.

If Google sees that you're searching for specific programming terms, they may ask you to apply for a job as Max Rossett writes that three months ago while working on a project, he Googled "python lambda function list comprehension."

The familiar blue links appeared on the search page, and he started to look for the most relevant one. But then something unusual happened.

The search results split and folded back to reveal a box that said "You're speaking our language. Up for a challenge?"

Clicking on the link took Rossett to a page called "foo.bar" that outlined a programming challenge and gave instructions on how to submit his solution.

"I had 48 hours to solve it, and the timer was ticking," writes Rossett.

"I had the option to code in Python or Java. I set to work and solved the first problem in a couple hours. Each time I submitted a solution, foo.bar tested my code against five hidden test cases."

After solving another five problems the page gave Rossett the option to submit his contact information and much to his surprise, a recruiter emailed him a couple days later asking for a copy of his resume.

Three months after the mysterious invitation appeared, Rossett started at Google.

Apparently Google has been using this recruiting tactic for some time.

Heal The Sick, get rich...

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Best Paid Pastors Make Hundreds Of Thousands To Millions Of Dollars Annually

"...being a pastor can mean being a multi-millionaire."

Is this what God intended?

Or are these pastors self deceived?

Where does your pastor live?

What does your pastor drive?

What life style evidence demands a verdict when you look behind the front of the Ozian curtain at your own pastor?

Do you think your pastor is in the ministry for service to others?

Or does it appear as if your pastor is in ministry for personal gain?

How many books has your pastor wrote and sold?

How many "Christian" organizations is your pastor benefiting from?

How some pastors get rich.

"It is easy to connect that the largest churches, often called mega-churches, come with mega-salaries.

Just this year Dr. Robert Jeffress stated in a sermon where he went into a clothing store to buy a suit.

The pastor was curious and so asked what the most expensive suit in the place was, knowing full well that he couldn’t afford it.

The man brought back a suit that was tailor made for a pastor of a mega-church that cost $60,000!

Sadly, this same pastor boasted that he could afford it…he drew a $200,000 salary per year…plus expenses.

One pastor of a mega-church drew a salary of just over a quarter of a million dollars.

Dr. Jeffress said that he about fell over and bought a suit that was reasonably priced at about $200.

Pastors who make over a hundred-thousand dollars are the rare exception and they are confined to the mega-churches."

On the other hand...

Many pastors are under extreme stress because they do not have adequate income to meet their financial obligations.

Like anyone else who is under heavy financial burdens, a pastor can find his thoughts consumed with worry. Because he is so distracted, he naturally is less effective in his ministry. Both he and his family feel the pressure.

Some pastors leave their churches because of pay issues.

You will not likely hear a pastor announce in his resignation that he is leaving because of financial pressures.

The reality is that, for a number of pastors, the issue of compensation is a major push from one church to another, or from the church to a secular vocation.

It’s not that the pastor is in his job for the money; it’s that the compensation for his vocation is insufficient to meet his family’s needs.

The World Is losing beautiful things...

When I was a kid growing up in California there were Monarch butterflies all over the place. Not so much now...

Nearly a billion monarch butterflies have vanished. Now their haven in Mexico is also disappearing: More than 52 acres of a haven where the butterflies hibernate over winter has been degraded, mostly by deforestation from illegal logging, with drought helping the decline.

It once took 30 something minutes to take the red car track to LA from Newport beach Pier. Try that today.

Knox Version Bible

  • Translated from the Latin Vulgate and compared with the Greek and Hebrew Texts by Ronald Knox over nine years.
  • The Entire Knox Version
It seems like a very readable English version to me. I liked the words that were chosen when I read Gen chapter 1. But as always, when one man translates, there may be personal bias in some areas of doctrine etc...
    Did I mention Catholic?

Stop In The Name Of The Law!

A police officer is directing traffic in the intersection when he sees a self-driving car barreling toward him and the occupant looking down at his smartphone.

The officer gestures for the car to stop, and the self-driving vehicle rolls to a halt behind the crosswalk. This seems like a pretty plausible interaction.

Human drivers are required to pull over when a police officer gestures for them to do so. It's reasonable to expect that self-driving cars would do the same.

But Will Oremus writes that while it's clear that police officers should have some power over the movements of self-driving cars, what's less clear is where to draw the line. Should an officer be able to do the same if he suspects the passenger of a crime?

And what if the passenger doesn't want the car to stop—can she override the command, or does the police officer have ultimate control?

According to a RAND Corp. report on the future of technology and law enforcement "the dark side to all of the emerging access and interconnectivity (PDF) is the risk to the public's civil rights, privacy rights, and security."

It added, "One can readily imagine abuses that might occur if, for example, capabilities to control automated vehicles and the disclosure of detailed personal information about their occupants were not tightly controlled and secured."

Droneapocalypse

California's Senate Bill 142 would prohibit drones from flying under 350 feet over any property without express permission from the property's owner.

The bill passed the California Assembly easily. Tech advocates have been battling privacy advocates to influence the inevitable regulation of private and commercial drones.

Industry groups say this restriction will kill drone delivery services before they even begin. The legislation would also drastically diminish the usefulness of camera-centric drones like the ones being rolled out by GoPro.

If passed, the bill could influence how other states regulate drones. The article notes that 156 different drone-related bills have been considered in 46 different states this year alone, and the FAA will issue nationwide rules in September.

Meaningless Nonesuch Nonsense

Physicist Stephen Hawking claims to have figured out a way for information to leave a black hole. He presented his theory today at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Scientists have struggled with the black hole information paradox for years, and Hawking thinks this new theory could be a solution.

He said, "I propose that the information is stored not in the interior of the black hole as one might expect, but in its boundary, the event horizon."

Put in layman's terms, "this jumbled return of information was like burning an encyclopedia:

You wouldn't technically lose any information if you kept all of the ashes in one place, but you'd have a hard time looking up the capital of Minnesota."

Information can leave the black hole via Hawking radiation, though it will be functionally useless. Hawking worked with Cambridge's Malcolm Perry and Harvard's Andrew Stromberg on this theory.

Crowd Funding is the wild-wild west of business financing, and it's not just the people starting campaigns that are playing without many rules.

One of Kickstarter's sort algorithm triggers is the "Staff Pick." Research indicates being featured by Kickstarter staff is a huge predictor for success

But there is no published benchmark for how these are chosen. Oddly, Kickstarter only discourages users from falsely labeling their campaign as a Staff Pick. To protect backers and ensure the crowdfunding ecosystem isn't sullied by scammers, Kickstarter needs to boost their transparency starting with this Staff Pick conundrum.

I don't know, we don't know, they don't know.

In the mid-1980s, a University of Arizona surgery professor, Marlys H. Witte, proposed teaching a class entitled "Introduction to Medical and Other Ignorance.

" Far too often, she believed, teachers fail to emphasize how much about a given topic is unknown. "Textbooks spend 8 to 10 pages on pancreatic cancer," said Witte, "without ever telling the student that we just don't know very much about it."

Now Jamie Holmes writes in the NY Times that many scientific facts simply aren't solid and immutable, but are instead destined to be vigorously challenged and revised by successive generations.

According to Homes, presenting ignorance as less extensive than it is, knowledge as more solid and more stable, and discovery as neater also leads students to misunderstand the interplay between answers and questions.

In 2006, a Columbia University neuroscientist named Stuart J. Firestein, began teaching a course on scientific ignorance after realizing, to his horror, that many of his students might have believed that we understand nearly everything about the brain.

"This crucial element in science was being left out for the students," says Firestein."The undone part of science that gets us into the lab early and keeps us there late, the thing that "turns your crank," the very driving force of science, the exhilaration of the unknown, all this is missing from our classrooms. In short, we are failing to teach the ignorance, the most critical part of the whole operation."

The time has come to "view ignorance as 'regular' rather than deviant," argue sociologists Matthias Gross and Linsey McGoey. Our students will be more curious — and more intelligently so — if, in addition to facts, they were equipped with theories of ignorance as well as theories of knowledge.

Solar Oil Next Texas Energy Boom

The Wall Street Journal reports: "Solar power has gotten so cheap to produce—and so competitively priced in the electricity market—that it is taking hold even in a state that, unlike California, doesn't offer incentives to utilities to buy or build sun-powered generation."

Falling cost is one factor driving investment. "Another reason for the boom: Texas recently wrapped up construction of $6.9 billion worth of new transmission lines, many connecting West Texas to the state's large cities.

These massive power lines enabled Texas to become, by far, the largest U.S. wind producer.

Solar developers plan to move electricity on the same lines, taking advantage of a lull in wind generation during the heat of the day when solar output is at its highest."
