Beach Sand Tar Coming To A Southern CA Beach Near You Courtesy of Santa Barbara

In the 60's when I lived on 45th street in Newport Beach California, there was an oil spill up in Santa Barbara.

The tars from that oil spill of 1969 migrated down to the sands of Newport Beach.

3 million gallons of Santa Barbara oil, unstoppable for weeks, gushed out into the Pacific ocean.

After being on the beach our feet were covered in tar.

You couldn't wash it off!

We had to have a can of paint thinner and rags outside to clean the sticky black smelly stuff off of our feet before entering our homes.

This went on for years.

It was a royal pain for all beach goers.

Surfers boards get gunked up, and their wet suits always stunk of tar.

Black chunks of tar were all over the beaches.

Now once again this gooey hell cycle of tar is going to impact southern CA beaches for years to come.

Anyone who jogs at the beach will understand soon enough.
