The Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia just after the Revolution.


The delegates were hopelessly deadlocked and could not reach agreement on anything. Finally one morning, a then quite old man named Benjamin Franklin stood up, and leaning upon his cane, addressed the delegates.


Here is what he said, “Gentlemen, during the late conflict with England we often called upon Divine Providence to deliver us from certain defeat. Our prayers were heard. Is it not just possible, that this same Divine Providence, who knows the numbers of hairs on our heads, and when a sparrow falls, would bless this endeavor if we asked Him?”


The delegates were stunned, and hurried as one man to a church just down the road to pray for guidance. They also appointed chaplains to minister to the delegates. The Constitution was finished in a week. Soon thereafter the first 10 Amendments were ratified. These enumerated those unalienable rights that came from God, not from government.


On this Thanksgiving 2010, we are thankful for our families, our homes, our Liberty, our Freedom and our prosperity. Without a free United States of America, there would be no freedom in the world. Most of us have stood out there on the edge of the Abyss, defending that very freedom and prosperity for which we are so thankful today.


Be thankful that you understand the difference and are free to make choices in your lives. Billions on this planet cannot.


May we all realize when our freedoms are being encroached upon and stand up and push back as Americans. Our prayers today run parallel to those first delegates, seeking after Divine Providence to deliver us from those who would strip us of those unalienable rights given to us by God Almighty and not government.

Your Anointing By Pastor Brant Baker #006

I cleaned up the audio on this old cassette tape of a Wednesday evening meeting at Shekinah Fellowship. I then put the audio to a movie that I had made out of pictures of Brant and Shekinah Fellowship and uploaded it to Google video back when you could upload files of unlimited size. That was a few years ago. I had changed the title of Brant's teaching to, "The priest are unfit to minister."

There was some sort of a large Christian convention that picked up on it and shared it with their attendees. I believe that it was Paul Cain who shared it with them intially.

I had to remove it from the net because someone requested that their image be removed from the movie. Which necessitated the removal of the video from the net along with a few others. By the time I tried to re upload the video, Google had changed to a no video upload policy. They allowed me to keep the other videos that were still up on their service and they remained active.
This morning I came across that old cassette again and turned it into an MP3 file. I wanted to share it with you one more time.

I think that this has to be one of Brant Baker's best messages. It is a timely word that is still applicable to all of us today.

There is a powerful message of inspiration for anyone who has struggled with the failures of the flesh and felt that as a result they were of no use to God. There is also a powerful rebuke to those who use the position of the ministry to do other then the work of the ministry.

This file is available for download for one month as of todays date. So download it now! I believe that I have done a fantastic job with the recovery of the audio. I was fortunate to have a better copy of this cassette to start with.

Hi, My Name Is David And I Am A Jesus Juker...

The religious side of me says, "So what's wrong with that." But the common sense side of me knows full well what's wrong with that. I have seen many Christians over the years do this. And every time the sense that it leaves me with is that the sender thinks that I or the other targets are not being spiritual enough for their tastes. And if any of us responds in any other way other then joining in the "Jesus Juke" the sender frowns down upon us as if we are unwashed Cretan nematodes lacking in any kind of spirituality.

In all honesty I have been a Jesus Juker. It is part of the journey from baby Christian to fully equipped saint. Extend grace.

For the first time I have come across someone who is not shy about addressing this religious practice. Bold, very bold indeed...

A Man Named John


The quotation "All men are created equal" is arguably the best-known phrase in any of America's political documents, as the idea it expresses is generally considered the foundation of American democracy. Thomas Jefferson first used the phrase in the Declaration of Independence. None of Jefferson's biographers or studies of the Declaration accept the claim that the phrase was suggested by Philip Mazzei, although this claim has been made by non-scholars.

The opening of the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, states as follows:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

US President Abraham Lincoln succinctly explained the central importance of the Declaration to American history in his Gettysburg Address of 1863:
"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

The phrase was also quoted by Martin Luther King, Jr. in his famous I Have a Dream speech, as the "creed" of the United States:
"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
Even before all of this a man in the wilderness loudly declared essentially the same idea.

This man was no respecter of persons. He knew that of a certainty, all men are created equal. He gave out his message of the light to all. He bowed down to no man.

How many times have we deferred speaking out for the Lord because of the status or the stature of others?
I once found my self working on a new home being built by a man who was recently retired. He had build a large financial empire that employed hundreds of men. He got used to the special treatment that others gave him because of his position in his company and because of his financial status that he had achieved.
He couldn't understand the insolence of all of the construction workers who were engaged in the process of building his mansion. He had no understanding of the independence that almost all men in construction have.

His wife let me know that he was suffering deep depression and did not understand why. I did...
I had no greater respect for him anymore then I did for the man who was picking up the construction trash around the job. Both were equal in my eyes and worthy of equal treatment and equal respect..

One day the man asked me to tell him what I thought about how long it would take to complete his home. The builder had told him that it would take two years. I told him the truth, it was going to take much longer then that. Then I told him why he was depressed. He was used to the position that he had held for so many years in his business that he had built. He had grown accustomed to special treatment from others. He had learned to think of himself as being above them in a sense. He grew to feel that he was not equal to those around him.

And now here he was retired around all of these independent mavericks who could care less who he was or what he had achieved. He was no longer respected or honored like he was accustomed to, and this was painful for him. He thought of himself in the false way that his position in his company had entitled him to and made him accustomed to.

I gave him my, "We all came into this world naked and we are all going to leave this world naked" speech.
You know the only thing that we can take with us is what we did with God's Son Jesus Christ and how we conducted our lives and how we treated others while in this world. Sure we can amass power and position over others. Some men are never satisfied with what they have, always needing more wealth and more power.

These kind of men are in power behind the scenes of this earth today. They are currently making their power moves to end the nations of this earth to establish their global government that they will be the heads of. Little do they realise that their leader is Satan himself. Nor do most of them realize that the bible has predicted their actions way before any of them even existed. The antichrist is at work in the earth today.

We see the subtle and gradual things that they are doing to remove sovereignty and independence from nations and individuals. How they are doing this is so simple and so obvious to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

Evil is ever increasing. My country, America, is under major attack from within. Christians have been lulled into complacency, thinking that there are those who are watching out for their interest when the adverse is true. Satan has made great headway in America in the last few years, right under the noses of Christian leadership. One day they will wake out of their slumber, but then it will be too late. The works that evil men have done will be entrenched and undoable. America's Christian influence will be handed off to the Chinese Christians like a batton in a relay race. The Chinese will go out into the Arab nations with the gospel message.

We watch something happen on TV and we are told one thing when we are watching another thing. We hear what is happening but we are told we didn't hear it. We see what is happening, but we are told we are seeing something else. And we believe what we are told to believe. Where is our Christian spiritual discernment? Who are we listening to? Who are we believing? Our inner witness of the Holy Spirit or the news sources?

As a result we are going to lose. Correct that...we have lost.
Only a matter of time before the gospel batton is handed from America to China...

I think that while we are all equal as men. We are not all equal spiritually. Even those who say that we are, are wrong. Who are you serving? Are you serving your self or are you serving the Lord? You decide!

Death Penalty Unauthorized By Sanhedrin

Was it lawful for the Jews, the members of the Sanhedrin, to take the life of Christ?
The answer must be in the negative because they had no such authority.

Judea was a province under the domination of its Roman conquerors. They were denied the power to carry into execution any sentence involving the taking of human life. The Romans did, however, permit them to try persons acused of offenses for which the penalty of death might be imposed; but, such a sentence must first be submitted to the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate, for his approval or rejection. Moreover, Pilate was required to hear the testimony and weigh the evidence which was heard by the Sanhedrin- and then decide what to do.

If the Sanhedrin tried a man for a capital offense, involving the infliction of the death penalty, and he was found not guilty, then that was the end of the trial. But all convictions, as stated, were required to be taken before Pilate, whose final decision was necessary before the judgment of the Sanhedrin could be put into effect.

Referring back to what transpired, during the trial of Jesus, before the Sanhedrin, we note that Caiaphas and his henchmen found Jesus guilty of "blasphemy," and pronounced the sentence of death-and, instead of complying with the Hebrew laws, on that subject, they took the Christ before Pilate, not to obtain a review of their decision, based on their conclusions that He was guilty of "blasphemy," but to get from Pilate a quick, summary approval of their unlawful acts, without even telling the Roman Governor of what Jesus had been accused and for what He had been condemned to die.

When before the Roman Governor, they were afraid to report the true facts-that Jesus had been adjudged guilty of blasphemy, in the absence of any testimony, nor the introduction of a single witness! Instead, they told Pilate that "If He were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered Him to you."

Of course, they were hopeful that Pilate would not make inquiry at all as to the reasons for their condemning Jesus to die; but they were mistaken. Pilate inquired "What evil hath He done?" Afraid to tell the truth-apprehensive that Pilate would ridicule their judgment of condemnation, upon such an absurd charge, without evidence to support it, they quickly decided to change the accusation from that of "blasphemy" to that of sedition!

When Pilate told them to "Take Him and judge Him by your own laws," they were confounded. They knew that, under their own laws, the Christ could not, lawfully, be sentenced to die. Then came the admission that they had no authority to take a human life!

Here is the sordid and rotten thing about the proceedings; Caiaphas and Annas well knew that they had no lawful right to cause the death of Jesus-and they knew that Pilate could not, under the law, permit the Sanhedrin to take the life of Christ without a through investigation of the charges which they had made against Him. Still, in their determination to destroy Jesus, they cowardly resorted to subterfuge and trickery, before Pilate, by attempting to accuse Him of sedition-still in the hope that the Roman Governor would affirm their verdict of the death penalty, even though based on blasphemy!

They then saw that their plot was about to fail, so they resorted to pressure tactics, resulting in threatening to report the Roman Governor to Caesar as not being a loyal friend of the Emperor. This was the trick which caused Pilate to vacillate, and give in to the demands of the mob.

They were able to gain the custody of the Christ, but not under sanction of the laws. And from the moment Pilate delivered Him unto them, they began their plans to destroy Him.

"And they led Him away to crucify Him."

Crucified Him in the full knowledge that their acts were criminal in that they themselves violated the laws of God and the laws of their own race-for neither the Jews nor God sanctioned cold-blooded murder!

Pentecostals misuse the gifts of the Spirit more than any other group of people on earth; possibly even more than all other denominations combined. I say this not to their shame, but rather to their honor.

The more cars you have on a freeway the more likely you are to have accidents; the more vehicles, the more traffic violations. I commend the Pentecostal churches for their deep conviction concerning the validity of God’s gifts for today and for the risk they take in allowing them to operate within their denomination.

When it comes to most other denominations the freeway is not very well traveled and for the most part, closed altogether. When man in his religious endeavor blocks every on- ramp to the manifested presence of God, it creates some serious side effects. Young people, who are soon to become the next generation, become programmed by unbelief to think less and less of anything spiritual. They follow the detour signs set by their peers that reroute the traffic around any type of spiritual encounter with God.

No one learns to walk without first falling. The safest way to avoid falling would be to stay crawling. Imagine a grown man scooting around on his belly all his life and never walking. The monkey bars at a grade school are not completely safe for kids to play on but the experience they gain makes it worthwhile. The element of risk involved teaches the kids ‘cause and effect’ and how to deal with safety and danger.

When the church removes the monkey bars from the little children and blocks the freeway on-ramps from the youth spiritually, two things happen. They never climb very high and they never travel very far.

If you are a parent whose children attend church regularly, ask them what they know about something simple like speaking in tongues. If they know nothing, find a new church.

Any Bible believing church should declare the full counsel of God; that is why they call them ‘Full Gospel’. In Africa they have Baptist, full gospel churches. Young people come up to you and ask, “Pray me to receive language from heaven.”

On Thursday night, following Palm Sunday, Jesus had finished the "Last Supper" with His disciples in the upper chamber, in celebration of the great Feast of the Passover. From there we copy the New Testament account of what took place, from the time of the arrest of Jesus until the occasion when Pilate released Him to the mob to be crucified:

"He went forth with His disciples over the brook Cedron, where He entered, and His disciples. Judas also, which betrayed Him, knew the place; for Jesus oft-times resorted thither with His disciples.

Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

Jesus, therefore, knowing all things that should come unto Him, went forth, and said unto them: Whom do ye seek? They answered Him: Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said unto them: I am He. And Judas also, which betrayed Him, stood with them.

As soon as He had said unto them, I am He, they all went backward, and fell to the ground.

Then asked He them again: Whom seek ye? And they said: Jesus of Nazareth.

Jesus answered: I have told you that I am He. If, therefore, ye seek Me, let these go their way.

Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malcus.

And they led Him away to Annas first; for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. That disciple was known unto the high priest, and went with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known to the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.

Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter: Art not thou one of this man’s disciples? He saith: I am not.

And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold; and they warmed themselves; and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself,

They said therefore unto him: Art not thou also one of His disciples? He denied it and said: I am not.

One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, said: Did not I see thee in the garden with Him? Peter denied again, and immediately the cock crew,

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him: Before the cock crow, thou shalt denie Me thrice. And he went out and wept bitterly.

The high priest (Caiaphas) then asked Jesus of His disciples and His doctrine. Jesus answered: I spake openly to the world; I even taught in the synagogues, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. Why ask Me? Ask them which heard Me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I have said.

And when He had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying: Answereth Thou the high priest so?

Jesus answered him: If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why smitest Me?

Now the chief priest, and elders, and all the council, sought false witnesses against Jesus, to put Him to death; but found none, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At last came two false witnesses, and said: This fellow said: I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

And the high priest arose, saying unto Him: Answereth Thou nothing? What is it which theses witnesses say against Thee? But Jesus held His peace.

And the high priest said unto Him: I adjure Thee by the Living God, that Thou tell us whether Thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

Jesus saith unto him: "Thou has said: neverthe less, I say unto you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of God sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of Heaven."

Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying: He hath spoken blasphemy; what futher need have we of witnesses? Behold, now ye have heard His blasphemy. What think ye? They answered and said: He is guilty of death.

Then did they spit in His face, and buffeted Him; saying: Prophesy unto us, Thou Christ, who is he that smote Thee?

And straightway in the morning the chief priest held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus and carried Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate.

Pilate went out unto them and said: What accusations bring ye against this Man? They answered and said unto him: If He were not a malfactor, we would not have delivered Him up unto thee. Then said Pilate: Take ye Him and judge Him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him: It is not lawful for us to put any man to death.

And they began to accuse Him, saying: We found this fellow perverting the Nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ a king.

And when He was accused of the chief priest and elders, He answered nothing. Then said Pilate unto Him; Hearest Thou not how many things they witness against Thee? And He answered him no to never a word; insomuch that the Governor marvelled greatly.

Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto Him: Art Thou the King of Jews?

Jesus answered: Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of Me?

Pilate answered: Am I a Jew? Thine own Nation and the chief priest have delivered Thee unto me. What hast Thou done?

Jesus answered him: My kingdom is not of this world, then would My servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now is My kingdom not from hence.

Pilate therefore said unto Him: Art Thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth My voice. Pilate said unto Him: What is truth?

When he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them: I find in Him no fault at all.

And they were the more fierce, saying: He stirreth the people, teaching throughout all Jewery, beginning from Galilee to this place.

When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the Man was a Galilean. And as soon as he knew that He belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he was desirous to see Him of a long season, because he had heard many things of Him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by Him.

Then he questioned Him with many words; but He answered him nothing.

And the chief priest and scribes stood and vhemently accused Him.

And Herod with his men of war set Him at nought, and mocked Him, and arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him again to Pilate.

And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, said unto them: Ye have brought this Man unto me, as One that perverted the people; and, behold, I have examined Him before you, have found no fault in this Man touching those things whereof ye accuse Him. No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto Him. I will, therefore, chastise Him, and release Him.

The chief priest and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

And they cried out all at once, saying: Away with this Man, release unto us Barabbas.

Pilate said unto them: What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ: They all said unto him: Let Him be crucified.

When Pilate sat down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying: Have nothing to do with that just Man; for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of Him.

When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but rather a tulmult was made, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just Person; see ye to it.

Then answered all the people: His blood be on us, and on our children.

Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged Him. And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe, and said: Hail King of the Jews! And they smote Him with their hands.

Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them: Behold, I bring Him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in Him.

Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them: Behold the Man!

When the chief priests therefore and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying: Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Pilate saith unto them: Take ye Him, and crucify Him; for I find no fault in Him.

The Jews answered him: We have a law, and by our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.

When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was more afraid; and went again to the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus: Whence art Thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

Then saith Pilate unto Him: Speakest Thou not to me?

Knowest Thou not that I have power to crucify Thee? And have power to release Thee?

Jesus answered him: Thou couldest have no power at all against Me, except it were given thee from above; therefore he that delivered Me unto thee hath the greater sin.

And from hence forth Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying: If thou let Him go, thou art not Caesar’s friend. Whosoever maketh Himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour; and he said unto the Jews; Behold your king.

But they cried out: Away with Him, away with Him. Crucify Him! Pilate saith unto them: Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered: We have no king but Caesar.

Then delivered he Him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led Him away.

And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired."

No one, however brilliant, in all the whole world, has been able to successfully impeach that record and that testimony. Could Noah build his ark today?



If Noah had lived in the United States today the story may have gone something like this:

And the Lord spoke to Noah and said, "In one year, I am going to make it rain and cover the whole earth with water until all flesh is destroyed. But I want you to save the righteous people and two of every kind of living thing on earth. Therefore, I am commanding you to build an Ark."
In a flash of lightning, God delivered the specifications for an Ark. In fear and trembling, Noah took the plans and agreed to build the ark. "Remember," said the Lord, "you must complete the Ark and bring everything aboard in one year."

Exactly one year later, fierce storm clouds covered the earth and all the seas of the earth went into a tumult. The Lord saw that Noah was sitting in his front yard weeping. "Noah!" He shouted. "Where is the Ark?"

"Lord, please forgive me," cried Noah. "I did my best, but there were big problems.

"First, I had to get a permit for construction, and your plans did not meet the building codes. I had to hire an engineering firm and redraw the plans. Then I got into a fight with OSHA over whether or not the Ark needed a sprinkler system and approved floatation devices. Then, my neighbor objected, claiming I was violating zoning ordinances by building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a variance from the city planning commission.

"Then, I had problems getting enough wood for the Ark, because there was a ban on cutting trees to protect the Spotted Owl. I finally convinced the U.S. Forest Service that I really needed the wood to save the owls. However, the Fish and Wildlife Service won't let me take the 2 owls.

"The carpenters formed a union and went on strike. I had to negotiate a settlement with the National Labor Relations Board before anyone would pick up a saw or hammer. Now, I have 16 carpenters on the Ark, but still no owls.

"When I started rounding up the other animals, an animal rights group sued me. They objected to me taking only two of each kind aboard. This suit is pending.

"Meanwhile, the EPA notified me that I could not complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact statement on your proposed flood. They didn't take very kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction over the conduct of the Creator of the Universe.

"Then, the Army Corps of Engineers demanded a map of the proposed flood plain. I sent them a globe.

"Right now, I am trying to resolve a complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that I am practicing discrimination by not taking atheists aboard.

"The IRS has seized my assets, claiming that I'm building the Ark in preparation to flee the country to avoid paying taxes. I just got a notice from the state that I owe them some kind of user tax and failed to register the Ark as a 'recreational water craft'.

"And finally, the ACLU got the courts to issue an injunction against further construction of the Ark, saying that since God is flooding the earth, it's a religious event, and, therefore unconstitutional.


"I really don't think I can finish the Ark for another five or six years if all goes well."

Of all the men mentioned in the story of the trials and subsequent crucifixion of the Christ, it must be admited that Caiaphas, the high priest, was the most despicable. And, in making this appraisal of him, we are not unmindful of the treachery of the great betrayer, Judas Iscariot. To be sure, the high priest was even more corrupt.

For eleven years, from 25 A. D. he remained in that lofty position in Judea; and was at all times completely devoid of ethics, honor, fairness, and common decency! And his close friendship with Pontius Pilate, the Roman Governor, was grounded upon the proposition that they had this much in common- a deep hatred for the Christ, whose teachings they scoffed with an abiding venom. Both were political cowards- men who dreaded the thought of having their heads removed from the public trough!

As the presiding judge of the Jewish court, called the Great Sanhedrin, he was required to take a solemn oath, under the existing Jewish laws, to at all times assume an attitude of impartiality toward every accused person brought before the court; and to manifest complete indiffrence as to the results of any trial therein; that he would not serve as the presiding officer should there arise a case in which there existed enmity toward the accused.

But not that fellow! Being unable to restrain himself, and hide, to some appreciable degree, his deep prejudice toward and hatred of Jesus Christ, we find him even before the arrest was made, conspiring to murder Christ- and seeking false witnesses to appear before the court, against the Master! And that is not the end to his corruption. Next we note that he, the presiding judge of the court, personally makes the charges against Jesus of "blasphemy," and then has the gall to announce, in open court, that there was no need for witnesses! Then, as furthur evidence of his utter unfitness and complete lack of judicial temperment, he begins to tear his own garments from his shoulders to his waistband.

Matthew records how Caiaphas conducted himself as the presiding Judge of that court:

"Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying: He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now ye have heard His blasphemy! What think ye? They answered and said: He is guilty of death!"

When Jesus replied to the direct inquiry as to whether He was the Christ, the Son of God, and gave an affirmative answer, He was denounced as a blasphemer. Utterly ridiculous!

And, with the open approval of this same high priest, the members of the court, in complete disregard of existing laws, deliberately and cowardly spit into the face of Jesus,

(Jurist pauses with tears in her eyes and obviously choked up with emotion)

and buffeted Him; and others smote Him with the palms of their hands, saying:

"Prophesy unto us, Thou Christ, who is he that smote Thee?"

And with all of that display of rage and temper and ill-will, the high priest was not yet contented. He can now be seen leading the bound and bleeding Christ over to the palace of Pilate, in the dire hope of obtaining a speedy approval of their unholy and unlawful verdict that the Christ should die, because of the accusation of blasphemy! And, before the procession starts upon its journey for the second trial, they place a sharp crown of thorns upon the head of the Master and strike Him several blows upon the head, so as to insure the deep imbedding of the thorns into His precious brow. Hence, He is led to Pilate, because His eyes are by now filled with blood!

What a judge! What a trial! Somewhere, in the old Jewish law, there is this wise and true maxim: "A desreputable and corrupt judge is to be no more respected than the sweat from the blanket of a jackass!"

Indeed, Judas Iscariot betrayed his best friend for filthy silver- and in full remorse, hanged himself- but this Caiaphas committed the greater sin. He utterly and forever discraced the high office of high priesthood through his cowardly and vile conduct as the presiding official in the supreme court of Jewry! Moreover, he became a deliberate law-violater in the following respects:

1. He knew that his heart was filled with poisonous enmity for the Master, but continued to serve and to preside at that trial, after having taken an oath that he had no such enmity toward the accused.

2, His oath to be fair and impartial was made a mockery when he admitted being a party to the corrupt conspiracy with Annas and Judas to have Jesus betrayed into the hands of His enemies, in the nighttime.

3. He raped the law when he personally preferred the charge of "blasphemy," after Jesus had merely admitted being the Son of God!

4.He winked at justice and blinded his eyes to fairness and decency when he went out in search of those "false witnesses" to testify against the accused, in his own court.

5. Being learned in the law- which was a prerequisite to his assuming the duties of that high office- he pretended ignorance of the law which required the production of two witnesses, whose testimony must be in agreement, as to all material details embracing the charge against the accused.

6. He ignored the Jewish legal mandates that no trial be had at night, nor during the feast of Passover; or on a Friday!

7. It was he who called for the vote of the death penalty, and unlawfully recorded it, when the Jewish law, with which he was entirely familiar, prohibited the imposition of the sentence of death. The Roman conquerors had, long before, denied them such authority.

8. He painted a picture of bestiality and contempt by deliberately tearing his own robe in the court room, and then permitting his cowardly cohorts to spit into the face of the prisoner; to strike Him, and ridicule Him with other modes of cruelty, such as forcing into His brow that thorn-covered crown-as a symbol of Kingship.

And it was he who, before Pilate, raised the loudest voice for the release of Barrabas, and for the demand that Jesus be crucified. Still not appeased, he gave minute directions to the Roman soldiers for that commission of furthur acts of brutality while Jesus was prostrate and suspended on the cross!

One can easily get a mental picture of the smirking countenance of Caiaphas as the Christ begged for a few drops of water to cool the raging fever of His parched throat, and received, instead, a sponge soaked in vinegar, while awaiting for his helpless victim to give up the Spirit!

How do you suppose that the high priest really felt on that Friday afternoon, on Calvary's hill, when, standing at the foot of the cross, he heard fall from the lips of the dying Christ that sincere and fervent prayer for forgiveness- upon the premise that His murderers knew not what they were doing?

And what reaction, if any, did Caiaphas have when the earth began to quake, and the lightning began to strike, and he knew that Jesus had died- and he heard one of the murderers, a Roman soldier, say:

"Truly this Man was the Son of God!"

The world will ever remember, with justified disgust and contempt, the sad spectacle of that vicious, immoral, cruel, inhuman, cowardly, prejudiced, unfit, disreputable "judge" of the highest Jewish court who delighted in leading the frenzied mob in its base acts of brutality and cold-blooded murder!

Does God Still Speak?

The Bible records God speaking audibly to people many times (Exodus 3:14; Joshua 1:1; Judges 6:18; 1 Samuel 3:11; 2 Samuel 2:1; Job 40:1; Isaiah 7:3; Jeremiah 1:7; Acts 8:26; 9:15 – this is just a small sampling). There is no Biblical reason why God could not or would not speak to a person audibly today. With the hundreds of times the Bible records God speaking, we have to remember that they occur over the course of 4000 years of human history. God speaking audibly is the exception, not the rule. Even in the Biblically recorded instances of God speaking, it is not always clear whether it was an audible voice, an inner voice, or a mental impression.

Evangelical Protestant faith has always affirmed, as a central tenet of its understanding of divine revelation, that the Word of God must have supreme authority in religion. Evangelicalism has historically held this view in close conjunction with the work of the Holy Spirit. The truth can be stated this way:
The living and true God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is supreme head of a living church, is not mute. He speaks — and He speaks clearly — by His Spirit and through His written word, the Bible.’

I heard an excellent message this past weekend by my Pastor entitled “Hearing God’s Voice” in which he explored the various ways Gods speaks. Does God still speak in this day in age? You bet he does! In fact, God has never stopped speaking not only to those who love and serve him but to those who don’t as well.

Does God still speak to us today?
Let me tell you a little story, and you be the judge.

A young man had been to Wednesday night Bible Study. The Pastor had shared about listening to God and obeying the Lord's voice. The young man couldn't help but wonder, "Does God still speak to people?" After service he went out with some friends for coffee and pie and they discussed the message.

BEHOLD I DO A NEW THING

Thus says the Lord, "I will do a new thing." On the day of Pentecost no one knew what to expect. They had no idea that tongues of fire would appear over their heads, and that a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind would fill the house where they were sitting.

A spiritual awakening is about to take place, but no one really knows how it will be. Amos 3:7 indicates that revelation knowledge precedes any move of God’s Spirit. The early disciples knew to wait in Jerusalem. They knew when and where to be gathered and that they would receive power after the Holy Ghost came upon them, but they didn’t know how it would happen.

The Lord lets us know when He is about to do something mighty, but it’s always a wonder when He does. The mysterious ways of God are his to determine and his to reveal.

Modern day Christianity thinks they have it all worked out and that God must act accordingly. A new thing! It’s unlike any other manna that we have ever tasted before. My eyes are wide open in expectation. All we can do is yield, surrender and be pliable.
Rejoice and sing, be glad.

Even the softest pure heart is a heart of stone compared to what God desires to create within his church. The closer I come to him, the more I find that I know nothing. Nothing at all, as taught in Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

A new thing is about to happen. It cannot be figured out. Greek words have no bearing on how it will happen or where it will happen. Doctrinal differences whether simple or complex will not detour it. Mark 13:37, "And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."
