First skateboard made from carbon fiber and carbon nanotubes- just 1/4" thick

A very long way from my homemade 1957 2x4 metal wheeled skateboard...

In October, 2007, Insect began a quest to construct a skateboard deck using the most advanced composite materials known to man. This led directly to the cutting edge world of carbon nanotubes. What was science fiction only a few years ago is now a proven technology in military and aerospace applications. Many experiments using carbon fiber prepreg enhanced with carbon nanotubes followed. The first of these experiments involved using carbon nano skins over standard core materials in a traditional sandwich construction and the results were mixed. Ultimately, we took a gamble and decided to dispense with the core altogether and build the entire board out of nothing but carbon fiber + carbon nanotubes.
The results???
